Category: Let's talk
Do you think people can really tell the future? Not only the future but the past and the present? I was talking to these two women and they were talking about their readings. I wonderd allowd, is it really someone reading your energy or is it power of suggestion? I did not say that in so many words, however the two women were abiliging and we had a very eye openning talk about the whole thing. Made me want to go out and get a reading done. Wanting to, and actually doing is two very different things though. So what do you all think. Beleive it or not?
I know a friend that is part indian that says he can tell the future. He also can sience when something is wrong. He knew when i almost fell down the stairs and he was not even near me.
Hmmmm, this is a huge question.
I do believe in the supernatural. I've felt the presence of my grandma e.g., she died 10 years ago and we were very close and I know she has been there to protect me. Of course the synics can put it down to luck or conincidence that during all my travels everything has always worked out amazingly and I've never beern in danger or real trouble and that me imagining or feeling her being there is just, well, that, an imagination, but despite me being a very logical person normally I am convinced there is something more to it than just that. My mom can also sense things, if something bad happens in my life (and I live in the U.S., they live in Europe) she calls me within a day, even if we normally don't talk for weeks, because she had a dream that I was doing bad. This has happened on 4 or 5 occasions and there was no indication on my part that something was wrong. She can also tell if someone's going to visit.
Anyways, on the other hand I don't believe in horoscopes for example, what they do is to use something that is so general you can apply it to your life. I mean, "you might meet a long lost friend next week) you're likely to meet someone, almost every week, that you used to know and haven't seen for awhile, at least the chances of you doing this are pretty good so, yeah, of course it'll turn out right. I mean, most people have self-confidence issues sometimes or have been through a hard time of one sort or another so any personal profiling based on your birth place etc will probably include that. I did my profile once and it said my best qualities had to do with knowing how to manage money, and my biggest flaw was not being able to control my psending, now that's very professional and I just can't see how these two things go together actually ... so, it's a very mixed thing really.
I guess bottomline, I know there is a more advanced, call it spiritual, world out there, you can dabble in it at least to an extent or be born with some type of tallents to tap into it, I choose not to even explore that .. because I'm busy enough with this world. But if you can use that world to tell the future etc that is possible, but I would say that the greater majority of people out there who claim to do it are faking, however, there might still be people who actually can so I can't exclude that option.
Ok, this is confusing <grin>

My mother does a great job at reading tarot cards. So far all the readings she has done are 100 percent accurate.
As far as reading into the future, it would be cool, but it would also make life dull. I myself like to take things as they come. I don't think that we are meant to know what's going to happen before it happens. I don't know. that's just my opinion :)
Id say some can but its not an exact science. The trouble with psychic's is there are far too many fraudulent money makers out there ready and willing to tell you any kind of rubbish just to "prove" their "gift" .
My brother however has scared the pants off me many times and not surprisingly people who have never previously met Alistair are very sceptical until he reveals something about them, that he could not have known without asking questions.
............................................................
1 instance stands out vividly for me he was climbing up in Glencoe on Bidean nam Bein and had reached a very tricky slope when he noticed a Mountain Rescue helicopter searching for a lost walker they had no idea where this guy was and it was 4.00pm in mid autumn so the light was going.Alistair called the base on his mobile and inexplicably directed them to the walker, who was injured with a twisted ankle..He'd had no idea of this fella's whereabouts and hadn't seen a soul all day.To this day my brother cant explain how he knew the info was just there in his head.
Iv'e also had a weird experience at age 16 or so. It was Sunday Grand Prix season and Ferrari's form was absymal as Dad said "if they didn't have bad luck they'd have none at all"
............................................................
Despite this I knew categorically that they were going to win the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, so I didn't watch the race much to Zio Giovanni's consternation.Come 5.00pm I listened to the news and to my shock Alain Prost won for Ferrari! I, and not to mention everyone else, was stunned its never happened since and I'm glad because being psychic is not always a bowl of cherries, just ask my brother.
I personally don't believe that people have abilitties to tell the future. Most of those that claim that do, in my opinion, do it for the money and are so general about it that it could apply for anyone. My friend had one of these weird reading where she had to pay something like £50 and when she came out she didn't know anything that she didn't know already before going in that room, this woman was just saying stupid things like "you're a confident person, you are currently in a relationship, which had it's ups and downs but now is becomeing more stable" ETC. so, if someone is able to convince me, and by convince I mean tell me something about my self that there's no way you'd know and that is not general that you just might be lucky to guess, I'm not gonna believe it.
Interesting, the paternal instinct in most animals as well as humans is very strong most of the time wildabrew. However I haven't heard too many stories where the parent feels it within a few days. The guy who talked about his brother finding the fallen hiker in the mountains was very cool. I think I have to agree with internet king though, I want to hear something that only I would know about my self, no guessing or tugging at straws. Let me tell you this woman I was talking to told me that her reader told she would have a near death experience.. This was suppose to happen in like ten years. This woman looked and looked for it. Now one day she and a friend were driving in her car when it stalled like a foot from a train track. SHe says both the windows were down, and when the car stalled she and the friend sat there bewilllered. Within one minute a train came around the bend, and was only inches from takeing the car with it. Talk about spooky. So what do you all think of that. Can someone tell down the road in time what will happen?
D-
That's either 1 hell of a coincidence, or sheer bloody good luck! But here's the crux a true psychic is forbidden from telling the sitter bad news, for fear of upsetting them or more likely to protect themselves from being sued should such a thing happen.
............................................................
There have been cases where these charlatans have said to someone "oh your husband has a lump it maybe nothing but wait i think there are others" such nonsense can cause untold damage to a person's mind and ruin their life...So I think in hindsight your people were just unbelievably lucky.
Again this concern's my brother and F1,We were watching the British Grand Prix and Ferrari were expected to do very well as usual..smile.
However the car never took the bend and hurtled in to a tyre wall at 180mph! The ferrari was buried up to the cockpit in the wall and smoking, the driver Michael Schumacher experienced a NDE for a brief moment he was dead! I remember clearly sitting there whispering move, please move, but he was still then slowly he began to try and get out of the car they later said that he'd only suffered a broken leg...Ally told me he knew this was going to happen and he had been unusually tense jumpy and withdrawn for perhaps 2 hours before the race but wouldn't tell me why.
Well Fire of the Dragon.
If you think about it, I mean, how likely is it that you might experience some near death experience in the next 10 years. I mean, I would say there's a high probability you'll experience something scary, may be something you feel is a near-death experience and then you feel like that person actually knew what he/she was talking about (not arguing, just bringing up a thought). :)

Wildabrew, your right the chances of having a near death experience are very probable, and the chances of someone guessing the time frame is probable too. However what are the odds that someone is going to guess the time frame to the year. I think you have better odds playing keno. hahahahahaa! More and more the police world is turning to these readers to solve crimes, and look at nostradamous people say he could read into the future. Or so they say. A good agrument could bre made to say that future seeiers are real.
By the way I like the spin you put on my screen name.
Dragon of the fire-
Aa yea flame of the legendary reptile. :)
I thought you meant she said "some time in the next 10 years" .. that would've been different. Given the time frame, yeah, there might actually be something to it.
There is really no right or wrong I suppose for all this. But some interesting things.
There was this pscychology experiments where a professor asked his class to fill out their birth place and date of birth (or date and time I think) and based on that he would give them a personal profile and analysis.
They all did and he gave them the analysis and asked them to rate how well it applied to them.
The ratings were very high and it was only at the end of the study the professor revealed he had given the same description to all the people in the class, he just used so generic words and things that everyone believed he was talking to them.
It's really an art form I think and I think if you hear of something that could be applied to you you try to make it apply to your life in a way and you look for matches, and as the saying goes "if you look hard enough there's always a chicken" .. at least this is true at Boston market.

Hey I think the same as you wildabrew. The power os suggestion is very powerful. Is there anyone who has the answer to the question are psychics just good at power of suggestion, and people just want to beleive, or is it that they are getting messages from the future?
I think psychics deal in the power of suggestion. They are just out there for show, or they have some kind of screening process that the caller is subconsciously unaware of. Now, I happen to believe in the supernatural, but I don't exaggerate things. It's not about "I know who I was in my past life" or "I can predict the future" but I have sensed when things were wrong before and I have seen visions that turned out to be coincidences in the future. One recent example is a week before I was going to see Blind Guardian play in San Francisco, I was listening to one of their albums and all of a sudden on my brown wall, I saw this big white fiery flame flare up and anxiety just came over me. I went into a panic and kept thinking of Hansi, the singer, and saying "I don't want to lose him!" The night before the show, they cancelled it. It was due to a bus breakdown. Here comes the coincidence. I started reading The Silmarillion this June and there's a character in it named Fëanor. Hansi has used Fëanor as a chat name before. The character has a fiery spirit and when the enemy fights him, he dies in a spontaneous combustion of white fire. So, it was like Hansi was giving me a sign back in 2002 that I would lose him in some way, by missing the show!
I firmly believe in teling the future. I also belienve that certain people can sense things about others, without the other person having to say anything about it.
I believe that there are people who can tell the future, sense things about others and so on. However, I do not believe in these people out there for money. From what I've seen they are just that; there for the money.
Ok, um, I do believe in a form of ESp, because, I have it. Now, i can't just take some random person, or even a friend, and tell them exactly and precisely what's going to happen to them. But sometimes, if I'm close to someone, or am meant to help them in some way, I either can sense them somehow, whether or not their distressed, or if they're hurting or in pain, or sometimes, i have vivid dreams about a person that sometimes will come true. I've had dreams where friends are trying to contact me on the phone, and that they're trying to tell me something, whetehr it be something they're going through or an important event in their life that for some strange reason, i am meant to know withouth them even telling me. My friends calling me on the phone doesn't necessarily mean that they're going to call me, but that in some way, I am meant to know what's going on so I can help them.
I don't know where the source of these dreams/feelings comes from, but I do know they're real.
Also, sometimes, i can see a vague picture while still being awake of something which may or may not happen. For example, I saw that someone was ggoing to be involved in a car accident, and 24 hours later, i was involved in one. I've also seen other things, or which i won't go in to now. But, as I said, usually I only sense, or dream about these happenings, when I'm meant to know.
I think there is a difference between being able to tell the future, and having psychic powers, or there being supernatural occurrences. I don't actually believe that people can tell the future, because that would mean that the future is already written, and therefore, nothing we can do can change what is going to happen to us, and if that's the case, what would be the meaning of life. But things do happen which are unexplained, and can only be explained by the fact that there must be other powers out there, powers of which we know little, but which some of us have had insight into. Let me tell you a story ... slightly off the topic of telling the future but ... it was something that happened to me when i was younger. I grew up in South Africa, and one day, when I was about 14, we drove down the road, and passed by a little roadside market. There were people selling all sorts of things, and we looked at some carvings on a wood stall. They had these really nice carved wooden boxes, and me and my sister bought one each. I just kept mine in my room, and a few weeks later, I was doing some ringing around of my friends, hoping to write some letters in the holidays, and there were two friends whose addresses I didn't have, so I rang them both, they both gave me their addresses, and I wrote them down, and put both pieces of paper with their addresses in my carved wooden box, for no other reason than that it was a safe place to keep them. A few months later, and I honestly can't remember exactly how long, but both those friends of mine died within a week of each other, literally, one saturday one died, and the other died the next saturday. Coincidence? or something more cinister. Guess I'll never know, but what I do know, is that I got rid of that box just as soon as I had the chance.
hmm. Weird story. Anyay I think that animals have another sence than us. For example... well, one of my teachers without even looking at the weather said that today was going to rain. She didn't know when, but it was going to. But her trick was to look at the birds. Another thing was I think was in Germany. One day, animals were acting really really strange. And the cause for this was a terrible earthquake 2 hours after!.
yeah they did some research into that. apparently it's cats that can sense earth quakes coming. Birds also do have the ability to sense things like that, but that is all down to magnetism. birds have the ability to sense magnetic fields in the earth - hence how they can migrate every year and not get lost. so that's scientific not supernatural.
I'm not a cat, but I know we were about to have a major earthquake before it actually happened. And I saw exactly how i would react, and how I would stand with my little girl, in her bedroom doorway, standing there, with her in my arms. And I could also hear the walls/doors rattling in my vision. I dunno what you would call it, i'm loathe to say that I'm psychic, and I don't necessarily believe that everything's written in stone, just that for some strange reason i can see certain things before they happen to me or someone I know and am close too.
I don't think anyone can tell the future. That seems insane to me. I wish they could, kinda, in a way, but in a way I don't because they could see bad things, and that would be bad. Lol. THis is an interesting topic. Caitlin
oh i dunnow though, if I could tell the future, I could tell this week's lottery number, and that would benefit me greatly! lol
Yes that would be cool wouldn't it? Then I suppose you can only win once, and it would suck if you would know the number and couldn't claim it! Especially if you knew the person who was winning.
But then, you could always help your friends out and convince them to split the proffit with you!
I dunno ... would deja vu be considered the same thing? Because I get that a lot.
possibly, although some do say that deja vu relates to a previous life, and reincarnation. and that would be a different matter altogether ... i mean, if we can tell the future, is there such a thing as reincarnation? praps a different topic
I don't believe the future is written in stone. However, if you choose a path there are certain things likely to happen. For instance, when I was looking at colleges I got a full scholarship for Tulane, but my Mom wouldn't let me go because she didn't know anyone there. Now, she did want me to go to a college in my own state, but I chose a college away from my family; or most of them. My point is this; if I'd chosen any other university it is likely I wouldn't have met my husband; who I've been with for almost 8 years, and we're still as in love as we ever were; if not more so. I think I met him because I chose the path that would lead me to him. We have choices, but I believe for each path there are certain things likely to happen, however, at those points we can choose from many different paths. For instants, I could have chosen not to get on the Net where we actually met while I was at college; or I could have chosen not to accept my love for him; as recently as I'd been hurt...
Hehehe like the lottery idea. That would be pretty nifty. But then I guess, if the future would be told, they'd have to end the lottery if the same people kept winning. SObs.
Caitlin
hmmm yeh true, although in reality you could kind of just do it the once couldn't ya, just to get enough money to change your life. alternatively you could get people to pay you to give them the winning loterry numbers, i dunnow ... £10 per number? you'd be raking it in! hahahahaha
